SAMPLE ONE:
Objective:
Learning Experiences:
1.Students will hypothesize what they think habitats are. Teacher and students will discuss and describe what the environment of a rain forest, desert, grassland, and savanna are.
2.Through various science materials (books, videos, magazines), teacher and students will locate animals that belong in each type of habitat.
Assessment:
Students will list the four types of habitats, write two or more sentences to describe them, and name three animals from each one. |

SAMPLE TWO:
Objective:
Learning Experiences:
1.Teacher and students will discuss and hypothesize what animals eat in each habitat. Teacher will define four types of African animals: grazers, browsers, herbavores, carnivores.
Assessment:
Students will categorize pictures of given animals into their four appropriate groups on a large velcro graph and count how many belong in each group.
2.Habitat Murals Cooperative learning groups will choose one of the four habitats to create. Students will use materials and make animals that belong in that habitat.
Assessment:
Students will demonstrate what they learned about habitats and the inhabitants by creating a mural of one of the four habitats. |

SAMPLE THREE:
Objective:
Learning Experiences:
1.Students will learn about defense characteristics of specific animals, such as a zebra's ability to camouflage or a cheetah's fast speed. Students will create a "defense" scene with an animal of their choice. They are to display the animal in it's own habitat protecting itself (adapting) from danger.
Assessment:
Teacher will be able to recognize students´ understanding of adaptation by the ways in which the students choose to describe it.
